As a pastor, I always felt that VBS was to be a major commitment on my part. I wanted to be in town, involved and engaged in the efforts of impacting the lives of children, youth and adults. It was not a chore for me, but rather it was a joy!

At first, I thought I had hurt his feelings. I mean this was a serious project, and maybe I was being a little too cute for my own good.


Rules of Thumb is a catchy title and the book is content-rich. Alan M. Webber, cofounder of Fast Company magazine, has compiled 52 pithy principles which are business-friendly thoughts for those in the market place. Christian leaders may enjoy this stimulating read as well.

These "Rules of Thumb" can be applicable to Christian leadership challenges. One word of caution is needed. Some stories in the book, and a few of the words, will be uncomfortable for us as believers. However, the bulk of the book's material is usable and definitely interesting. Webber is a thoughtful storyteller and a bottom-line thinker.
